Project Approach Plan on Community
Introduction
Offering the STEM curriculum from a young age prepares children to solve more complex problems in their later education. The project approach is an important strategy based on evidence that children begin understanding and learning STEM concepts early in their development (Clements & Sarama, 2016). The current project on the community is for a pre-kindergarten classroom of twenty children aged between three and five years old. At this age, children begin exploring their environment and can relate classroom concepts to their real-world experiences. I will conduct the project with the full participation of the children by encouraging them to explore and investigate the topic of the community (Chard, 2016). The project will involve classroom and field activities that will provide an interesting approach to learning new skills and gaining knowledge through classroom participation.
The topic covers what a community represents, where children see communities, how it benefits them, and some helpers. The community project seeks to encourage students to experience being part of their community and identify some of the benefits it offers. Learners will engage in individual and group activities where they will discover important aspects of the topic with minimal intervention. The project will include additional support for learners demonstrating greater need for the teacher’s assistance to complete critical tasks. Additionally, parents and family members are encouraged to participate in the project by providing support to their children whenever needed. Using the project approach will introduce STEM concepts that the learners will find useful in their kindergarten and primary education.
