The short story "Two Kinds" written by Amy Tan is a captivating piece that delves into the intricate dynamic that exists here between mother and her young daughter. The narrative is well written and moving, and it does a great job of capturing the concept of the battle to find one's identity while living in a different country. Tan's powerful language and visuals convey the narrator's setting (Atack et al.,2018). The moment in which the mother and daughter walk in the rain and the mother says they are "two sides of the same song" is a good metaphor for their intimacy.
Nevertheless, the way in which the mother's love for her daughter is shown inside this narrative is what strikes me as the most fascinating aspect of it. Even if the mother's strategies for encouraging her daughter to be successful are often counterproductive, it is obvious that she has only the highest hopes for her offspring (Adeani et al., 2020). In the end, the daughter comes to this realization and is able to make amends with her mother, demonstrating that the strength of their link is capable of overcoming any challenge.
