Therefore, these particular stereotyped classes of people would likely feel inferior. A good example is the notion that girls are not good or competent in mathematics as boys. In this reference, therefore, girls would shy away from competing in a maths test with boys because they would likely feel that they would judge against the boys; hence may fear confirming the stereotype that, indeed, boys are better in maths than girls. A stereotype is not an uncommon thing in American society. Unfortunately, stereotype tends to have profound effects on those affected. Mostly, women have suffered the most as far as academic qualifications are concerned. The low concentrations in academics have made the women underrepresented in the topmost positions career-wise. This article will aim to talk about students' stereotypes and how they may be relevant to gender. Further, the essay intends to give the necessary and useful remedies that students could employ to improve the issues associated with stereotype effect in students. Stereotype threat could have both short and long-term effects on academics. Generally, stereotype threat could be experienced by women and minority groups in schools, further creating success barriers.
