Introduction
For my final field-based analytical and reflective assignment, I chose to watch Brené Brown’s TED Talk titled “The Power of Vulnerability.” This program stood out to me because it dives into emotional connection and how vulnerability plays a central role in how we communicate with one another. As I took notes, I paid attention to how Brown connected with her audience and what communication strategies she used. In this paper, I will describe my observations, reflect on her communication approach, and analyze the program using communication theories such as self-disclosure, social penetration theory, and nonverbal communication cues. These concepts allowed me to see her talk not just as a personal narrative, but as an intentional and strategic communication effort. (Brown, 2010; Adler & Proctor, 2017)
